Kensington Smith Seating & Bench Collection

“The landscape belongs to the person who looks at it.”   - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Carolina "Colors"

Our Carolina Bench™ is inspired by the annual winged migration of Canada geese and pays homage to the Outer Banks in North Carolina and the Wright Brothers. We are inspired in much the same way that Orville and Wilbur Wright were inspired by watching birds in flight to solve the vexing problem of “wing warp.”  Whereas they were looking for flight to be airborne we were looking for flight to be grounded.  The graceful outstretched “wing” of our bench is defined by hand-forged steel banding in a durable textured black powder coat finish. The same steel banding on the end panels protects the wood from direct contact with the ground.
The “Colors” series offers fifteen hand-painted color combinations—a signature look of our trademark artisan collection.
This “Rustic” version of our Carolina Bench™ is defined by reclaimed barn wood in either silver or painted white, each with original, rustic finish.  This appealing combination of new/old is a signature look of our trademark artisan collection.

Our Glouchester Bench™ reflects our love affair with benches. This is a substantial design defined by subtle, understated details. Structurally, a sizeable laminated wood beam connects the pattern-cut end panels. Hand-forged steel banding in a durable black powder coat texture finish outlines the bottom of each end panel, protecting the wood from direct contact with the ground. Each of the three seat planks with "button" detailing, are trimmed in contrast edge banding with a bead profile.

Our School House Bench™ is inspired by the iconic Red School House and simple wooden desks that educated generations of children. Sadly all but extinct from our landscape, we’ve reinterpreted the classic wood school seat into an exciting and versatile design. Our signature bench defined with our distinctive artisan details is scaled for comfort and simplicity. We offer this design in a palette of seven complementary colors that work well individually or when mixed as a color grouping. Ideal for indoor or outdoor use, there are so many uses and possibilities for our original School House Bench™— makes a great dining table or hallway bench; a colorful garden or terrace grouping; poolside or courtside seating.

Our Mackinac Bench™ incorporates graceful turnings that are reminiscent of a colonnade porch from a summer cottage. Simple, refined, classic, and elegant define this understated design. This bench is equally at home on a windswept shoreline, a public park, country club, campus or country estate. We often design our products with multiple uses in mind—this one is equally adept as a coffee table.

Our Petosky Bench™ is quietly reminiscent of another era—one that is elegant, graceful and serene.  Just as a song can take you somewhere, so too can a bench in a garden. Aesthetics are an integral part of our work and this one has it all.  The distinctive lattice back is laser-machined from a single sheet of aluminum and then powder coated with a baked enamel epoxy finish.  Solid wood seat slats match the lattice back color. This stately design is versatile to use in many environments—indoors or out.
